Having no toilet or a smelly, fly-ridden, hazardous toilet results in Open Defecation (OD) in rural and semi-urban areas worldwide.
Open defecation is a health hazard.
Progress in the provision of adequate sanitation remains slow.
There is a perception that quality toilets are unaffordable.
There is a lack of simple, effective upgrading options to improve existing toilets.
UN Sustainable Development Goal 6:
Ensure access to water and sanitation for all… “due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene”.
After 12 years in everyday use, Daniel Lilema of Word of Life Church moved four of their Loo-Loo type toilets 300 miles from Lusaka to Livingstone for a week-long conference held in September 2017.
Thereafter, the toilets were uplifted for a second time and placed in safe storage to prevent them from being stolen before building commences sometime in the future.
In addition, the Loo-Loo provides a simple but effective means of upgrading and improving existing toilets.
